The AdWord’s keyword planner tool is possibly the choicest way to get the best keywords for your website, article or blog. Therefore, here we are going to discuss how AdWords can help you to find the best keywords.
Granted, it is known that AdWords helps in increasing Google revenues. In addition, it also gives the same benefit to the advertisers who use it. Let’s find out how you can get the best keywords from a huge list from Google.
Begin with the AdWord’s Keyword Planner Tool and select your target country. Next, select your language. Default is the US and English. Then; scroll down and there you will see two tabs; namely “Keyword Variations” and “Site-Related Keywords”. Select one of them. Now, I am going to guide you in the step by step procedure of finding the best keywords.
If you select the option of “Keyword Variations”, then you have to type some keywords in the given box. Type single words in each line and press Enter after every keyword to go to the next line.
You may need some keywords based on similarity. Then, I would recommend you to use synonyms. Using synonyms is a good idea to broaden your keyword search. Let’s say, I find a very well known keyword with an equally well known synonym which would have remained unknown to me if I didn’t find that.
Google will present you a thorough listing of keywords which is in line with your initial keyword search. If you look closely, then you will see Google mentioning that “It is a list sorted by relevance.” What does that mean?
Well, it is Google’s way to nudge you to start an AdWord campaign. The keywords that appear on the top of the list are the most relevant. This in case you are ready to start an ad campaign.
What do you think that you do now? Maybe you add some of them to keep, download all of them or move on to a new related search. However, before doing any of these steps, browse and find how Google is providing an excess of outstanding tools. These will help you modify your listing of the best keywords.
The best keywords – Narrow your keywords search
Now, move to “Show columns”. Here you will find a drop-down list which will show you some impressive options to select. Select your first option which is “Keyword popularity”. Then, two adjacent “Data Columns” will come up. Next, click the heading of one of the columns; the list re-arranges the listings based on significance.
On the other hand, the “Advertiser Competition” column shows the list of your keywords which are in demand. In the same way, the “Search Volume” column gives you numbers relative to how popular your various keywords are. There is another step you can take if would like to know even more details for keywords.
To carry your search further, move to “Match Type” on the right side of the planner tool columns. In particular, there you can select “Broad”, “Phrase”, or “Exact” and see how the level of information changes. You can click on the help? for clarification about the best keywords.
Now we are moving on to “Show columns” third options which is the Global wide trends in search volume. This option added recently. When you go for this option, you will see a remarkable display. It shows how the popularity of keywords changes in the format of bar charts.
This occurs worldwide throughout the year. You may want to go further with your search refined for the best keywords. Then, hook on to the “Match Type” option given in this column on the far right.
If you choose to Start an AdWord campaign:
If you are not thinking about beginning an AdWord campaign, then you can skip the other two options of “Show columns”. So, if you do have a plan to start a campaign, then first select the option of “Cost and Ad position” estimates.
Next, in the following page, decide the maximum CPC and currency. It will be the highest cost which you accept to pay for each click your ad receives. Clicks are for search terms you chose.
Note: This is not the same as another common term CTR (Click-Through-Rate).
Finally, when you select “Recalculate” option, you will see the average CPC for keywords in your list. What is more, you will also see a number of combinations of Ad position. Considering this, your chosen maximum CPC may be very low. Then, there may not be an average value of CPC.
A possible negative keyword is a remaining option in “Show columns”. Moreover, the tool supports keywords to sustain prominence in your ad campaign. You have to decide that if you want to add negative keywords or not. Anyhow, it depends on the campaign strategy.
For instance, my keyword may be top ranking. As such, it has other possibilities. For example, top 10 rankings, uptown top ranking, or top ranking universities. Now, I have to decide if I want to include uptown or universities as my negative keywords, yet I have to leave ‘10’ out of the term.
It means that if I am selecting ‘top ranking’, my negative keyword, as a “broad match” or “phrase match”, then my ad won’t show the search terms including negative terms universities and uptown.
To ban ad impressions that you don’t want, the expert campaigners choose a broad match that is one word. Then, they return working on a lot of negative words list.
“Site related keywords” tab
So far we have discussed keywords you choose and ways to refine them. Assume someone is willing to know about the keywords his competitor is using. Then, AdWords Keyword Tool can help us with that.
To know about your competitor keywords, you have to start by clicking the other tab which is “Site-Related Keywords”. Now, use the search box and enter the URL of your competitor and click “Get keywords”.
Remember to check “Include other pages on my site linked from this URL”. After your click, Google will come up with a list of keywords result which is grouped by standard terms and parentheses for each group.
